Genius! Bumgenius, that is.

Holy moly - this is a huge topic. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when we started to cloth diaper Finn. Prefolds, cover, pockets, inserts, all-in-ones, all-in-twos, wetbags, detergents - AAAHHHHHHHHH. It was overwhelming to get started. Luckily, I have a couple of friends that cloth diaper and they were more than happy to share what they liked/disliked.

We ended up skipping prefolds/covers. Finn was already 4 months and HUGE when we delved into cloth so he fit into one sized diapers already. I wanted to stick with OS when possible to minimize the gain the maximum money savings (ha ha). I found a lot of great deals online and started to build my stash. Bumgenius was recommended to me by just about everyone. And I was in luck - there was a coupon for FREE 3.0's (an all-in-one) with the purchase of $XX of other Bumgenius products floating around in a couple of magazines. Although they aren't one size diapers I decided to go for it (hey, free is free) and Bumgenius 3.0 became our diaper of choice for overnight.

They've since been discontinued the 3.0 but they've launched Bumgenius 4.0 with some new features (better aplix, the option for snaps, different elastic) - I'm looking forward to checking them out. We're going to hold off ordering until I can see them in person - I'm happy with our 3.0's and don't feel the need to replace them. For now. I'm eagerly anticipating a trip to Happy Baby Company when we head to Pittsburgh next month. Everything looks pretty on the internet but to see and touch in person is going to make it hard to stick to my monthly budget.

Product Review & Giveaway - Revolution Foods!

I was lucky enough to receive a box of goodies from the folks at EcoMom. All I can say is WOW!

We received three varieties of Jammy Sammy's (gone), a few Fruit Mashups (2 are gone) and a few pouches of Plum Organics infant food (not gone - yet!). I have to say, everything has been a hit. My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and has the usual toddler food issues. One day she loves a food, the next day she's offended that I would dare to suggest that she eat it. She loved the Jammy Sammy's! I packed them in our bag to take to the pool and wish I would have had my camera ready quicker to take a picture of her lounging on the chaise snacking on her Sammy. Her favorite was the strawberry & peanut butter but she also enjoyed the grape & peanut butter as well as the Grammy Sammy.

This part of the review is embarrassing. The Mixed Berry Fruit Mashup was enjoyed by all of us. But mostly me. I've seen the pouches that Revolution Foods/Plum uses for their foods and thought they were super cool. I've even purchased the Fruit Mashups before but my toddler would eat them because they were too messy for her. But THIS spoon by Boon is amazing. I attached it to the pouch to give it a try - holy cow was it good. Audrey wanted to share with me and she loved it too. Finn (my 7 month old) heard us squealing and came crawling over - he even sampled it and came back for more. Yes, three of us. One fruit mashup. It was fab.

We're not a big baby food family - I'm all about the baby-led weaning method of introducing solids. I do love the convenience of these pouches, especially for adding to plain yogurt for Finn. I love that you can reseal them and they really do taste good. Like REAL fruits/veggies instead of overly processed jarred foods. I feel great about serving this to my children (and myself) and I think you will to.

So check it out. EcoMom is offering you the chance to try out their products on the cheap. You can save 15% between now and June 30 using coupon code SBBL437. Sweet!

Opening day!

There are approximately 1,032,389,702,435 parenting philosophies. At least. One thing we all have in common is wanting the best for our children. We've all heard it - "We didn't have _______ (car seats, BPA free plastics, etc) when we were kids and we turned out okay". Well, I'd like my children to surpass okay. I'm sure you would too.

My dream career is to be a small business owner. Specifically, I'd like to open a children's boutique that carries products that I love to use. I'm the mother of two small children. I don't claim to be an expert on anything but I can tell you that in the 2+ years that it took for me to get pregnant with my first I spent a LOT of time reading, researching and dream shopping for my future child(ren). Once my daughter was born I quickly figured out that all of the things that I thought were necessities actually weren't. Now that we have a second babe I've found that less is mostly more but there are definitely some fun extras out there that sure come in handy.

Both of my children were breastfed. Both coslept. One is in disposable diapers, the other cloth. I worked full time through my daughter's first year of life (with the exception of a 4 month maternity leave). I'm currently working three days a week as a meeting planner for a non profit. My daughter is on the verge of potty training and transitioning into a big girl bed. My son is on the verge of eating solid food and maybe starting to nap in his crib. We'll see. I love sleeping next to my baby - we'll see how that goes.

I have a few product reviews and a giveaway up my sleeve in the next few weeks. I'll be spouting off with my opinions on some baby gear we've acquired over the years as well as some toys, clothes and diapers. I love to share my opinions - I hope you enjoy reading them.

Is this thing on?

Testing....testing...1...2...3.
